Meema's May Visit: Mary Poppins!

At the end of the year for the Homeschool Academy program the older kiddos attend they put on a play. This year was Mary Poppins! While the actual Mary Poppins play is put on by 4th grade + students the younger grades act in a prelude. This year was special as Amelia, Joshua and Lydia were all in the play. Amelia was a robot, Joshua was a car and Lydia was a spring dancer. My mom was able to come, Aunti Abbi since she moved here! and Meema Devi and GiGi Donna even were able to come up to watch the performance!

Amelia is the robot with the blue glasses and blue shirt in the middle
Josh as a car
Lydia as a spring dancer
Amelia had quite a few solo parts!

Josh and Lydia are both in this one
Lydia dancing in the middle with the red flowers
Amelia towards the middle again and actually you can see Lydia to the left with her red flowers
Finale!

Next year ... Aladdin!

Joshua's 6th Birthday

It seems around these here parts we end up with birthweeks instead of birthdays! We started Josh's birthweek celebration with a movie at the dollar theatre! I can't remember now what we saw : ( but apparently it was really good looking at the picture below... maybe Despicable Me 3 ? Isn't Benny cute over there in the stroller! We love the dollar theatre because it costs a whole $20 or so for our whole family to watch a movie and eat popcorn and drink soda (then we sneak our candies in of course) and we sit in the front row and take over! Usually there's only a couple other people in the theatre and usually they also have kids so we don't stress out too much about excess movement and noise.
I hadn't made any dinner plans for us so we decided to splurge and go to Texas Roadhouse. Josh is so into horses and cowboy stuff so naturally that's where you'd go... eating steak makes him feel like a real cowboy... and besides who can resist the rolls!
These are some sort of mascot glasses they gave us... I'm still not sure who the mascot is?

He got to sit on the horse saddle while they sang him happy birthday!
Opening presents at home... daddy got this awesome Broncos jersey set and Aunti Abbi got him a real wallet! (notice the pic in the wallet... it's his soccer picture, he said it was like what daddy and I keep in our wallet, you know, our driver's licenses haha)
Soccer cake... #12 was what he picked
They do birthday celebrations for Awana so they have all the kids for each month stand up front for a photo op and a bell ring and a special little trinket.
Amelia and Josh are both October birthdays!

We were so blessed this year for Joshua's 6th birthday. We have developed a new friendship with a couple from Edward Jones. Ron and Barb. Our kids have adopted them as another set of grandparents ; ) They got word from Adam that Josh is really into horses and came up with the idea to invite us to their ranch just a couple hour drive away from our house for a weekend. Before committing we made sure they knew what they were setting themselves up for and without any hesitation they joyously insisted on us coming!

Once Josh heard he set out his best cowboy outfit and got his horse mini-book and was ready!
Just pulled in... here are the horses!
And the kiddos went straight to work the next morning... actually they volunteered! They said it's what you do when you live on a ranch and they wanted the full experience ; ) Here they are... scooping poop!

… moving hay

… wheelbarrowing out the poop
Getting acquainted before riding
Look at those beautiful mountains! It is the other side of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains that we are used to seeing from the San Luis Valley
His golden moment... he has ridden a full horse for one hot minute in Monte Vista and of course the ponies at the carnival but this... this was incredible! He was a real cowboy here!

Amelia anxiously awaiting her turn!

Lydia!

And even Jo got a turn!

And dada! And of course no preggos allowed to ride horses : (
And if all that riding wasn't enough they got to do a tractor ride as well!

The girls got to make dinner inside... and Jo wanted to help ; )
And we carved pumpkins! Amelia's artistic desires came through and she got all into this carving with using stencils!

Happy Birthday Josh!
Ron and Barb you're the best!!!
